New rules and other changes that will impact B.C. workers next year

December 15, 2025

The new year is just around the corner, and there are some changes that B.C. workers and employers should take note of.

Whether you’re a longtime employee at a company, have just started a new job, or are on the lookout for your next career move, these rules are essential to keep in mind.

Here’s a list of what those things are, as well as a quick refresher on some significant recent changes that took effect.

Pay Transparency Act

The Pay Transparency Act was introduced in 2023 to mandate that employers across B.C. must include wages or expected salary ranges in job postings.

Starting on Nov. 1, 2026, companies with 50 employees or more must post annual pay transparency reports.

This follows the B.C. government and crown corporations’ posting annual pay transparency reports beginning in 2024, employers with over 1,000 employees posting reports in 2024, and employers with over 300 team members posting theirs in 2025.

Any B.C. employer that isn’t federally regulated must post salary information on publicly advertised job postings. The Ministry of Finance’s Gender Equity Office (GEO) monitors and acts on non-compliance reports.

Things like bonus pay, overtime, or benefits don’t need to be included but can be voluntary.

The BC government also has some specific rules about what is and isn’t allowed:

“$20 per hour and up” or “up to $30 per hour” does not meet the requirement
“$20-$30 per hour” does meet the requirement
