Joy’s Journey Back into Banking
June 28, 2025
After six years of experience in customer service and banking, Joy faced an unexpected setback when she was laid off from her banking job in 2024. Determined to return to her field, she spent months applying online—but without receiving a single interview. The employment gap and recent layoff became barriers she struggled to overcome, and over time, her confidence began to erode.
That’s when Joy connected with the Langley WorkBC Centre.
From the moment she walked through the doors, Joy found a supportive team ready to help her rebuild her confidence and navigate the challenges of re-entering the workforce. WorkBC staff worked closely with her on resume development, providing guidance on how to effectively address the employment gap during interviews. Through coaching and interview preparation, Joy gained the tools she needed to present herself with clarity and confidence.
What made a significant difference for Joy was the ongoing encouragement she received from the WorkBC team. Regular check-ins helped her stay motivated, especially during difficult days. Her Job Developer, Priyanka, became a key source of support—offering job leads, advice, and ongoing encouragement.
One of those leads came through a WorkBC-hosted hiring fair, where RBC was present as a participating employer. Thanks to her preparation and persistence, Joy impressed the team during her first-round interview and was invited back for a second round.
Today, Joy proudly shares that she has been offered the role of Banking Advisor Intern at RBC, with her official start date set for July 7th.
“I thank my job developer Priyanka, who was assigned to my job search process, for her advice, guidance, and patience. Her efforts have made me accomplish my career goal by landing a job with RBC,” shares Joy.
Joy’s story is a testament to how the right support, encouragement, and resources can make all the difference. The Langley WorkBC Centre is proud to have played a part in her return to the career she loves.
