Success Story: Lana’s Journey from Procurement Specialist to Entrepreneur

September 22, 2024

Lana, a resident of Langley, had spent over five years working full-time as a Procurement Specialist. While her role was rewarding, the rigid five-day office schedule, the long commute from Langley to Richmond, and the pressures of managing full-time work, motherhood, and taking courses made it difficult for her to maintain a balanced life. On top of these challenges, Lana felt underpaid and began dreaming of turning her passion for fashion and an active lifestyle into a reality.

When Lana was laid off, she saw it as an opportunity to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams, but she was uncertain where to begin. That’s when she turned to Langley WorkBC for guidance. She had no experience starting a business and was searching for someone to guide her through the steps. WorkBC connected Lana with the self-employment program at Douglas College, where she learned the ins and outs of running a business, including how to handle taxes and other administrative tasks. Her dedicated WorkBC coach, Avneet, provided essential support, checking in regularly and offering guidance whenever Lana needed it. “Even after completing the program, I was told I could reach out anytime with questions. Knowing I wasn’t alone made all the difference,” Lana reflects.

Today, Lana is the proud Founder and Owner of La Mark Sport, a company that merges her love for fashion and active living into unique products. Thanks to WorkBC’s support and her own determination, Lana has successfully transitioned from a corporate role to building a business she’s passionate about.
