Support of the Langley WorkBC Centre Leads to a District Manager Position

December 1, 2025

When Unish first arrived at the Langley WorkBC Centre, she was determined to build a meaningful career that aligned with her newly acquired qualifications. With three years of experience as an Administrative Assistant/Accounting Coordinator, two years as a Store Manager in a franchising firm, and earlier experience in customer service and administration in Alberta, Unish had a solid foundation. She had also recently completed a Business Management/Office Administration Diploma, Sage 50 Bookkeeping Certification, and QuickBooks Online training. Although she held a Bachelor of Law degree from India, it was not recognized in Canada, adding another layer of complexity to her job search.

Despite her strong background, Unish faced challenges transitioning into a management role. Her job search skills were outdated, and she struggled with resume preparation, interview techniques, and connecting with employers in her desired field. She came to the Langley WorkBC Centre seeking guidance and support.

From the moment she walked through the doors, WorkBC provided a supportive and welcoming environment where Unish could confidently work on improving her job search skills and materials. She received one-on-one assistance to update her resume, refine her interview skills, and explore career opportunities that aligned with her goals. To boost her confidence and expand her knowledge, she attended WorkBC workshops, which equipped her with essential job search strategies.

Understanding her aspiration to move into management, the Langley WorkBC Centre provided her a wage subsidy marketing letter, designed to strengthen her employability and encourage employers to consider her for leadership positions. Throughout her journey, her Career Coach was a constant source of encouragement; Chris offered reassurance, simplified processes whenever possible, and reduced the stress that often comes with job search.

With the ongoing support and tailored services of the Langley WorkBC team, Unish successfully secured a District Manager position with Hi Five International Franchising Ltd. Her new employer utilized the WorkBC wage subsidy program to support her onboarding. Her start date is December 1, 2025.

In a heartfelt email to her Career Coach, Unish wrote:

“I am writing to inform you that I have accepted a job opportunity with Hi Five Chicken Franchising Ltd. I would like to thank you so much for your help in securing the wage subsidy and for all your other assistance. Special thanks to you and the entire Langley WorkBC team – you all are awesome.”
