Tech Event Takes Off!

On Thursday, November 26th, the Maple Ridge and Langley WorkBC Centres joined forces with Langley Community Services Society to host an online IT and Tech Expo that attracted more than 130 attendees! Event attendees were provided with and participated in industry and employer presentations, round table discussion groups led by IT and Tech experts, and an online hiring fair with key employers.
Industry specialists shared insider information on “hot jobs” and the skills and experience needed to get those jobs. Rosie Nathoo, Sarah Dickson, Pilar Portela and Leonardo Arbelaez offered their insights in the following four areas: Data Analysis and Engineering, Marketing and Digital Media, Tech Business Solutions and Project Management. Key post-secondary and training institutions also presented including Kwantlen Polytechnical University, Douglas College, BCIT, Western Community College, Lighthouse Labs and Career Paths at ISSofBC.
Representatives from Fortinet, Canada Revenue Agency, Traction on Demand, Robert Half, Clir Renewables, and ZE Power Group shared information about current job openings and their recruitment processes. More than 100 job openings were shared! Since the event, the organizing team has worked individually with attendees and connected 63 of them to employers! The team is continuing to market attendees to these employers; more matches and interviews are still to come!
$1000 Scholarship to Western Community College and a one hour interview coaching sessions with Catherine Steele were won by lucky prize draw winners!
