WorkBC Helps Professional Navigate Work Challenges Following Injuries

December 16, 2022

Christina had over 20 years’ experience as a pharmacy assistant before a car accident upended her life. Her injuries resulted in hand tremors as well as mental health challenges which made it difficult for her to continue in her chosen vocation. Christina became unemployed and relied on EI as a result.

After 4 months of unemployment, Christina came to WorkBC for support.

Christina’s case manager addressed her medical challenges and discussed the financial pressures of living on limited income. The case manager offered guidance on how to craft a resume and cover letter tailored to each position Christina was applying for.

Christina was referred to a job coach who was able to use a wage subsidy to subsidize her wages while she navigated the disability accommodations she would need moving forward in her career. Christina was offered employment through Pharmasave and WorkBC was able to provide transportation support as well as scrubs and shoes required for her new role.

After 12 weeks in her new role, Christina is thriving. Her employer is accommodating her physical and mental health challenges and she’s happy to be back in the industry of health care. Christina worked hard to overcome the challenges and the staff at Langley WorkBC Centre couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Congratulations Christina!
