WorkBC Training and Support Gets Client Back on Career Path

September 14, 2020

Rita arrived in Canada as an immigrant from Columbia with more than eight years of work experience in Sales Management. On her own, Rita was able to find employment, but it only lasted a year.

As a new immigrant, Rita has a lot of work experience from her home country but very little here in Canada. With little local work experience and no connections with potential employers, Rita struggled to find work and came to the Langley WorkBC Centre for assistance.

Rita completed workshops on job search and resume building and with a better understanding of the local labour market, job search and a more polished resume, Rita was able to get interviews. Unfortunately, none led to employment. Her WorkBC Career Coach referred her to the Wage Subsidy Program.

With the support and guidance of a WorkBC Employment Placement Specialist, Rita was connected to GFR Pharma, a health product manufacturer. The company was impressed by Rita and expressed interest in hiring her as an Account Manager. Using the supports provided through the Wage Subsidy Program, Rita is working full-time and receiving training on the company’s products and product specific software applications and tools.

Rita expressed her gratitude for the services she received from WorkBC Langley and its professional staff. She is feeling very positive about the next steps in her career!
