WorkBC Langley Supports Client to Secure a Marketing and Communications Position
February 28, 2025
Client Background: Meet our client, Mona, a 49-year-old woman who moved to Canada from India in April 2022 as a Permanent Resident. With over 15 years of experience in marketing, communication, and public relations in India, she had a solid foundation as a self-employed communication consultant before relocating. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Economics, which was later evaluated and confirmed as equivalent to a Canadian bachelor’s degree by World Education Services (WES).
Challenges: Upon settling in Canada, Mona faced multiple challenges while trying to secure employment. Despite her extensive experience, she found herself searching for a job for over a year. She attended several interviews but struggled to move beyond the first round, as many employers were seeking candidates with Canadian certifications and local work experience. Additionally, the client faced personal challenges. Her husband and child had to return to India due to the high cost of living and the absence of a job, leaving her to navigate the job market on her own.
The client was eager to secure a position in her field but remained open to any office job.
Support from Langley WorkBC: The client turned to Langley WorkBC for support. Her case manager provided a range of tailored services to help her overcome the barriers she was facing. These services included:
- Job Search Resources & Employer Connections: Her case manager provided valuable resources to support her job search as well as direct connections to employers who were hiring in her field.
- One-on-One Support: The client received personalized coaching to help improve her resume and her approach to job applications. Her case manager also assisted with interview preparation and gave her confidence in her abilities.
- Wage Subsidy: As part of the job search support, Langley WorkBC connected Mona to the Wage Subsidy Program, which gave employers the incentive to hire and support her transition into the local workforce.
The Result: Through the support and resources provided by Langley WorkBC, Mona was able to secure a role as a Marketing and Communication Strategist with a firm located in Downtown Vancouver. Mona now receives a competitive wage of $35.68 per hour and is thriving in her new role.
Her success story is a testament to the power of persistence and the valuable support systems available through Langley WorkBC. By providing personalized resources, professional connections, and one-on-one coaching, Langley WorkBC helped this client overcome significant challenges and achieve her career goals in Canada.
