There’s a major shortage of volunteers in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge to drive cancer patients to their life-saving medical appointments.

The Volunteer Cancer Driver Society (VCDS) coordinators a group of locals who offer up their time to pick up people who require help getting to medical appointments, and provide door-to-door service for them.

“This year we will provide 1,380 trips for cancer patients residing in the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows communities – to accomplish this our volunteers will drive 80,406 kilometres and donate 2,750 hours of their time,” Gorde Locke, VCDS vice-president, told the News.
