B.C. extends labour recovery, adds 8K jobs

B.C.’s labour market continues to gain ground after a rough start to 2026.

The province added 7,800 jobs last month, while unemployment dropped 0.3 percentage points to 6.5 per cent, according to Statistics Canada data released Friday.

Canada added 18,000 jobs in June, while the national unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to match B.C.’s unemployment rate at 6.5 per cent.

By sector, B.C. gains were centred on health care (+8,500 jobs) and transportation/warehousing (+7,300 jobs).

The province also saw a healthy mix of full-time (+5,200 jobs) and part-time (+2,600 jobs) added to the labour market.
