Natalie Finds Her Path in Childcare with Support from Langley WorkBC
June 18, 2026
When Natalie Bruno first connected with the Langley WorkBC Centre, she was at a crossroads in her career. After completing a seasonal Shelf Stocker position with Homesense and Marshalls, she found herself unemployed and uncertain about her next steps. While she had previous administrative experience and a strong background volunteering with youth as a dance instructor, she lacked the industry-specific training, job search knowledge, and confidence needed to pursue a career that truly aligned with her interests.
As a young job seeker living with anxiety, Natalie faced several barriers to employment. She knew she wanted to work with children but was unsure how to enter the childcare field or market herself effectively to potential employers.
Natalie was introduced to WorkBC through outreach services at Foundry, where she met with Career Coaches Chris and Mojahed. During their first conversations, they helped Natalie explore her career goals and identify a clear pathway into the childcare sector.
Through the Langley WorkBC Centre, Natalie accessed a range of services and supports designed to help her succeed, including:
- Individualized career coaching to identify employment goals and develop an action plan.
- Employment workshops focused on resume development, interview preparation, and understanding the Hidden Job Market.
- Skills Training for Occupational Certification (STOC) funding, which enabled Natalie to obtain her Responsible Adult Certification, an essential credential for working in childcare settings.
- Job development and employer marketing services, where WorkBC staff actively connected her with employers and opportunities that matched her interests and strengths.
- Ongoing encouragement and confidence-building support, helping Natalie overcome anxiety and approach her job search with greater confidence.
With the support of Langley WorkBC and her own determination, Natalie successfully secured employment as an Out of School Care Assistant with Rainforest Daycare. Beginning June 8, 2026, she started working 25 to 30 hours per week in a role that perfectly aligns with her passion for working with children.
Today, Natalie is building a meaningful career in the childcare sector while drawing on the skills and experience she developed through four years of volunteer service as a dance instructor. Her success demonstrates how the right combination of training, personalized support, and employer connections can help individuals overcome barriers and achieve their employment goals.
Reflecting on her experience, Natalie shared:
“WorkBC was the greatest help, and I definitely wouldn’t have this great opportunity without Chris and Mojahed.”
Natalie’s journey highlights the impact of the Langley WorkBC Centre’s client-centered approach, helping job seekers gain the skills, confidence, and connections they need to build sustainable and rewarding careers.
