A Great Start to a Career in Accounting and Finance

March 25, 2022

Joyce, a young woman originally from the Philippines, was keen to move into the finance and accounting sector.  She registered and successfully completed the Douglas College Accounting Program in 2021. As a part of the program, she completed a six month practicum as a Bookkeeper at PLB Tax. In November 2021 when her practicum finished, Joyce was referred to the Langley WorkBC Centre to get assistance with her job search and to get connected with potential employers. Joyce was assigned an Employment Placement Specialist (EPS).

The EPS supported Joyce with her job applications and directly marketed Joyce to employers for various accounting positions. Joyce got a number of interviews and with each interview her presentation improved. By the time the EPS connected Joyce to Vicinity Motor Corp, Joyce was a very polished interviewee. The EPS offered the Wage Subsidy Program to this employer who was delighted as it would offer the support needed to provide Joyce specific on the job training.

On March 2nd, Joyce began as an Accounting Clerk with Vicinity Motor Corp. She is very happy!
