May 27, 2026

When Charlez arrived in Canada in September 2025, he was eager to begin building a new life and career. However, he quickly encountered a difficult reality: the job market was slow, hiring was limited, and competition for available positions was intense. As a newcomer trying to establish himself in an unfamiliar labour market, finding opportunities that matched his skills and experience proved challenging.

Despite these obstacles, Charlez remained determined. He turned to WorkBC in Langley because of its strong reputation for supporting newcomers and helping individuals successfully integrate into the Canadian workforce. He believed WorkBC could provide the guidance, resources, and support needed to navigate the complexities of the Canadian job market.

Through WorkBC’s services and training programs, Charlez gained valuable insight into Canadian workplace culture and employer expectations. The practical training and personalized support helped him build confidence, strengthen his job search strategies, and better understand how businesses operate in Canada. WorkBC staff worked closely with him throughout his journey, providing encouragement, career coaching, facilitation, employment support, and connections to opportunities.

Today, Charlez is successfully employed with Lite Access Technologies.

Reflecting on his experience, Charlez shared:

“As a new immigrant to Canada, WorkBC has been an invaluable resource during my transition. The training programs were practical and tailored to the unique needs of newcomers, giving me a clear understanding of the Canadian job market and workplace culture. The support I received helped me build confidence and navigate a slow hiring market.”

Charlez also expressed gratitude to the WorkBC team members who supported him along the way, including his Case Manager, Hanaa, his training facilitator, Chris, his Career Coach, Priyanka and Rohan, the Business and Community Liaison Officer. All played a role in helping  him successfully establish himself in the Canadian workforce.

Charlez’s story is a powerful example of how determination, combined with the right support, can help newcomers overcome barriers and build meaningful careers in Canada.
