Accessing On-the-Job Training

August 20, 2022

Tetiana arrived, as a displaced person, from the Ukraine in May 2022. In her home country, she worked as a Resort Administrator.

Tetiana came to the Langley WorkBC Centre in June 2022. As Tetiana has very limited English, she was referred to a Ukrainian / Russian speaking Employment Placement Specialist (EPS). The EPS worked individually with Tetiana assisting her to build a resume and to prepare, find and maintain employment. Once Tetiana was work-ready, the EPS connected with several employers willing and able to hire candidates with limited English language skills.

The EPS provided translation and Tetiana did multiple interviews with different employers and different positions. Tetiana was offered and accepted a job at Magnolia Gardens. The workplace is close to her home and both she and the employer felt she would fit well within the work environment. With support from the Wage Subsidy Program, the employer will receive funds to cover a portion of Tetiana’s wages to provide Tetiana needed on-the-job training.

Tetiana started as a Cook Helper in August 2022. She is very happy and very appreciative of the services and supports she received from WorkBC.
