Patience and Effort Rewarded

February 24, 2022

Alana graduated from BCIT and had been working in the Information Technology (IT) field for three years. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, she was laid off by her former employer.

Alana came to the Langley WorkBC Centre in January 2020 looking for assistance with her job search and help connecting with potential employers in IT. After completing a series of job search workshops , Alana began to work with an Employment Placement Specialist (EPS). With support from the EPS and by using the Wage Subsidy Program, Alana was placed in a Quality Assurance (QA) position in August 2020.

Again, due to COVID-19 Alana’s company had to reduce its workforce and eliminated the QA team; Alana was laid off in November, 2020. Alana was beginning to wonder if the IT field was the one for her; however, her EPS encouraged her to not to give up and continued to assist Alana to find another job. With this encouragement, Alona upgraded her IT skills by taking some online courses and continued her job search.  Finally, with ongoing support from her EPS and a lot of patience and effort, Alana got a position as a QA Analyst with BuyaTab Online in Vancouver. She started in October 2021 and loves her new position and all of the help she received from the Langley WorkBC staff!
