WorkBC Inspired Me

September 29, 2021

Selena is a 25-year-old single woman with Epilepsy, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), clinical depression, anxiety and learning difficulties. Since completing High School, Selena has held short-term and part-time work as a janitor and as a customer service representative. WorkBC staff working with Selena quickly assessed that with Selena’s complex employment support needs she would benefit from the Customized Employment Services offered at WorkBC.

Staff at the Langley WorkBC Centre provided and guided Selena to complete an assessment of her strengths, needs and interests and then worked with her to develop a customized Employment Profile to help identify best-match scenarios between work environment and Selena’s interests. Due to Selena’s complex employment support needs, staff knew she would be more likely to succeed in an understanding training/work environment where prospective employers are fully aware of her strengths and limitations. Staff supported Selena to not only find suitable jobs but also assisted her by working with potential employers to customize the work to ensure Selena’s strengths would be leveraged and support her job retention.

Selena was offered a job at Talize Thrift store at $16.30/ Hour as a Merchandiser Processing. She is very happy with her job and the Store Manager is very happy with Selena’s work.

Selena sent this message to the staff at the Langley WorkBC Centre:

“I would like to sincerely thank my case manager and WorkBC for getting me where I am today – for the dedication and patience you helped me through, for believing the capability of what I can do and making me thrive to better myself each and everyday. From the bottom my heart I am forever grateful for my case manager she goes beyond for me. I can’t imagine anyone who is a better fit for me then Simran Sandhu. I hope my story will inspire others like me how WorkBC inspired me.” ❤
