WorkBC Assists Displaced Persons from the Ukraine to Find Their First Jobs in Canada

November 15, 2022

Olha is a displaced Ukrainian who arrived in Canada in August 2022. She has over 6 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and came to WorkBC Langley looking for assistance to obtain a customer service position.

Although Olha reads and writes English well, she needs some time to improve her English speaking skills. WorkBC provided her support with her job search and in making connections with employers in the customer service sector. Once she had her job search materials in place, Olha was referred to the Russian / Ukrainian speaking Employment Placement Specialist (EPS) who invited Olha to a hiring event at the WorkBC Centre.

The EPS supported Olha with multiple interviews with employers at the event. Otter Coop in Aldergrove invited Olha for a second in-person interview. Olha was successful and began her first job in Canada as a Grocery Clerk in October 2022. As Olha has very limited financial means, WorkBC provided her with transportation support for the first two weeks of her employment.

Olha is very happy with her new job and with the assistance she received from the staff at the Langley WorkBC Centre. Congratulations!
